Stock up on:

  1. hot Chamomile tea i.e. polyphenols for anti-bacterial activity
  2. oats i.e. beta-glucans for production of macrophage deep within bone marrow
  3. salad dressing fats for absorbing carotenoids (a form of antioxidant) in vegetables, into the absorptive intestinal cells
  4. the clear liquid on top of yoghurts i.e. whey protein, which is rich in an amino acid called cysteine, which converts to glutathione in the body. Glutathione is a potent antioxidant that fortifies cells against bacterial or viral infection
  5. tomatoes i.e. lycopene to fight free radicals
  6. (red) wine i.e. in lab studies, the wine’s combination of ethanol, organic acids, and low pH appeared to scramble the bugs’ genetic material — red is the most potent
  7. chilli peppers i.e. capsaicin — the compound that gives chili peppers their fire — can help stop sickness before it starts by producing antibodies and flushing out toxins
  8. cut calories, lose weight and lower cholestrol

“The founders of the Tread Project, a program designed to engage high school students through footwear design, offer advice on launching an education initiative.

What’s the Point?

The teachers at Hughes STEM High saw firsthand how powerful it was for the students to not only learn a new skill but also be encouraged by their fellow classmates to share their newfound design knowledge. Our students told us that they felt proud learning “hard” skills such as Photoshop/Illustrator rendering, conceptual sketching, and prototyping, along with “soft” skills like confidence, determination, and resilience — all of which could be applied toward their challenging everyday lives… ” (read more)

“A “nominal impact” resort is slated to open in the rock formations of Jordan’s Wadi Rum in 2014. But is it really any better than the environmental monstrosities in other parts of the world?…

The Wadi Rum Resort will cut into the mountainside when it opens in 2014, its lodgings and spas inserted almost invisibly into the natural faults and fissures of the land. Wadi Rum is a desolate stretch of Jordanian wilderness famous for its ancient rock formations (David Lean shot Lawrence of Arabia there), and the design, by Florida-based Oppenheim architecture + design, is conceived of to merge “silently with its wondrous setting.”…… the resort’s got a Bedouin-style tent village and assorted pools and hammams littered around the site, like oases sprung loose from the desert… ” (read more)

“Most evangelical Christians are aware of the importance of secret and corporate worship, but fewer have even heard of family worship…

… pray together, read the Bible together, and sing a great hymn of the faith together. There are many reasons for doing family worship, but let us just mention a handful… ” (read more)
